Reservations are made on receipt of full payment. Class size is limited to allow for individualized instruction. (With more than three students we have an extra instructor.) Personal laptop computers can be used if desired. We are currently holding these classes on request for groups of three or more. We are happy to provide private instruction for one or two persons. Photoshop for Photographers This Photoshop workshop is an introduction to the basic digital darkroom techniques for producing an optimized image, from raw digital file to final print. Stressing creative image enhancement, we will cover scanning, sizing and resolution, controlling image contrast and color, selection techniques, sharpening, the many uses of layers and tips on photo compositing and retouching. Overall, the emphasis is on acquiring an efficient personal workflow. Students are aided by a “digital darkroom checklist”, which will guide you through the logical steps of image processing, thus avoiding the perplexities of this very deep and potentially confusing program. Not, as some Photoshop courses are, solely a demonstration of the program’s many dazzling features, our teaching method stresses the acquisition of skills pertinent to your personal needs. Schedule The 15-hour workshop will meet each morning for five days, allowing ample time for reviewing your notes and practicing newly acquired skills at home after each session. Participants need to provide their own images (prints, slides or digital files) to work on in class. To get the most from this workshop you should have access to a computer and version CS (8.0) of Adobe Photoshop. Location The workshop will be held at Digital Arts Aspen, 210A Aspen Airport Business Center, a fully equipped digital imaging lab with workstations, scanners, printers, and broadband Internet access.
